Bulgari’s Serpenti Tubogas jewelery watches have graced wrists for 75 years. First launched in 1948, this beautiful and versatile watch uses Tubogas technology similar to today’s. The original head was square, rather than the more snake-like head of today. Many other changes that have occurred over the past few decades have further contributed to the continuing push for collectibles to become art objects. In the 1960s, the series further imitated snakes. Bulgari combines the use of gemstones and enamel dials to make this watch both functional and jewelry-style.
Since Serpenti Tubogas is a work of art in itself, Bulgari has cleverly collaborated with artists to continue developing the Serpenti Tuboas collection. Throughout 2023, to celebrate the brand’s 75th anniversary, Bulgari released special series and collaborated with many artists around the world. Together with the artists, they have exhibited these works in several countries. Now, they've once again used their creative platform, teaming up with Japanese artist Tadao Ando to launch the latest addition to the Serpenti Tubogas series.

Tadao Ando is a self-made architect from Osaka, Japan. He was awarded the Pritzker Prize, a coveted recognition in architecture. He had a gift for blending nature and architecture. He exclusively uses changing light patterns in his work, so it was no different when he added his expertise to watch designs. Ando's goal is always to create harmony between materials and nature. The collaboration highlights the role of the snake in nature and through these four pieces we see the changing of the seasons and the renewal of the snake's shedding, making Serpenti truly a timeless classic.
The dial materials in this series include green aventurine, tiger eye stone and pink or white mother-of-pearl. Each material is carefully cut and crafted into a dial that mimics snake scales. Each represents a different season and mood. Two rows of diamonds are set on both sides of the case, further embodying the important theme of light in Ando’s work. The four pieces - Natsu, Aki, Winter and Spring - will be released in their respective seasons. The first one is "natsu", which means "summer" in Japanese. Then comes Autumn (fall), Winter (winter) and Spring (spring comes again).
Bulgari effortlessly blends art, jewelry and timekeeping through its own creativity and collaborations with some of the world's best artists. It’s always exciting to see what new pieces and concepts Bulgari will expand its collections with. The Serpenti Tubogas is one of the most iconic and unique watches and this addition only emphasizes its versatility and timelessness. These four watches are all limited editions and feature Tadao Ando’s signature engraved on the case back.
